Review a candidate's GitHub and tell me what they built

A grounded read on real contributions, code signals, and questions worth asking

Here's a candidate's public footprint: [GitHub profile URL, portfolio or personal site]. Dig into what they've actually built. Separate original work from forks and tutorial clones. For their top repositories, look at the commit history — are they the main author or a drive-by contributor? Note sustained activity versus a burst right before job hunting, meaningful READMEs and docs, tests, and signs of real users like stars and issues from strangers. Check whether the pinned repos match reality. Then summarize in chat: what this person has genuinely built and maintained, their apparent strengths and depth areas, anything that looks padded, and three specific technical questions I should ask that their repos would let them shine on — or expose gaps. Judge only public work, and say clearly if the footprint is too thin to conclude much.
